Quintal da Música
Before it was Quintal da Música, this space was Odemira's old municipal slaughterhouse. Today, where once there was the heavy silence of work, you hear jazz, cante alentejano — the Alentejo's traditional polyphonic singing — fado, flamenco, and pop rock: a conversion the Municipality of Odemira wanted to carry out without erasing the building's memory, keeping its original exterior intact.
Opened in 2015, beside the river Mira, Quintal da Música is today far more than an open-air stage: it is also a school, where children and young people learn music in its many forms, and a meeting place, with outdoor seating that fills up on summer nights, especially for the "Às Quintas no Quintal" sessions — Thursdays in the Quintal.
With free admission, the bar at the Quintal is the perfect place to enjoy the concerts with a drink or a petisco, for anyone who wants to listen, to learn, or simply to be there, to the sound of those who turned a place of silence into a house full of music.
